The key elements of this model are that it views learning and memory as discontinuous and multi-staged. It is hypothesized that as The information processing theory is based on the idea that humans actively process the information they receive from their senses, like a computer does. Learning is what is happening when our brains recieve information, record it, mould it and store it. 2021-02-02 The Information Processing Model is a framework used by cognitive psychologists to explain and describe mental processes. The model likens the thinking process to how a computer works. Just like a computer, the human mind takes in information, organizes and stores it to be retrieved at a later time.

Information-processing model. Information processing theory is based on the idea that humans process the information they receive, rather than merely responding to stimuli. According to the standard information-processing model for mental development, the mind’s machinery includes attention mechanisms for bringing information in, working memory for actively manipulating information, and long-term memory for passively holding information so that it can be used in the future. In the middle of Sternberg's theory is cognition and with that is information processing. In Sternberg’s theory, he says that information processing is made up of three different parts, metacomponents, performance components, and knowledge-acquisition components (Sternberg & Sternberg, 2012). Cognitive psychologists use the information processing model to explain cognition. This model assumes that human cognition is a lot like a computer and the way the human brain works is by processing information through a series of stages: Perception: Input stage.

Unlike Piaget’s theory, this approach proposes that cognitive development is ongoing and gradual, not organized into distinct stages. Information processing (IP) models of human behavior assume mental operations analogous to those of computers, for example, storing, maintaining, comparing, and retrieving information. Discrete state IP models assume that observable responses in an experimental task are generated probabilistically from one of a finite, and usually small, set of latent (unobservable) cognitive states. 2020-03-22 The information processing model of memory is something that is very vast and complex to study, and all this is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Information processing model

Most notable in the inception of information processing models is Atkinson and Shriffin’s ‘stage theory,’ presenting a sequential method, as discussed above, of input-processing-output[2]. Information Processing Model The Information Processing Model is a framework used by cognitive psychologists to explain and describe mental processes. The model likens the thinking process to how a computer works. Just like a computer, the human mind takes in information, organizes and stores it to be retrieved at a later time.
